1. Small Business Owner. My days of big corporates are over. My clients are typically working in their businesses and are driven to succeed. You're probably a bit frustrated with the performance of the business and suspect there might be a better way - that's where I come in.
2. Coachable. Our time is valuable, with your drive to succeed you will be open to learning new things. Let me show you the shortcuts to business success.
3. Action orientated. You have a desire to make a difference and get stuff done. You realise that action gets results so you are the sort of person who gets a lot done. My clients get exceptional results in short time frames as a result of their action - orientation.
4. Good buggers. A very subjective test but if you consider yourself a good human who wants to do right by people then you're in good company and we're going to get along well.

Holy heck, where to start... my first consulting job looked like this: In Northern Ireland in the 90's the country was at war, it was called ‘the troubles’ and it was horrible: people were regularly being bombed and shot just walking down the street. Despite all the tragedy that unfolded the Northern Irish people were (and remain so) the most incredibly friendly and warm people I have ever met. They truly welcomed me into their society and took very good care of me whilst I was there. At the time I was a broadcast DJ at the local FM station and was writing copy for advertisements on the side. I would often see really bad strategies that businesses would employ to get new customers and feel awful writing adverts that fit that mould. Writing an ad that wasn’t going to work but followed what were sometimes completely useless strategies was the job. And I hated doing it. So one day when I had just had enough of it, I stopped. I was sitting in front of the owner of a struggling carpet and flooring business, he was desperate for business. The strategy he had been given from the so-called advertising “guru’s” in the media business where I was employed, absolutely sucked. It was the same crap everyone was doing and had the same result as everyone else. Not much. Bad strategy was never going to work and I was no longer going to be part of it. So I sat down with the client, explored what was working and what wasn’t, worked through some new strategy concepts, decided on one and started writing ads that reflected what he really wanted to say. The gurus thought it was terrible strategy but the proof was in the pudding, so to speak. In six short weeks, the advertising we created doubled his income and increased his margin per meter. The strategy worked and positioned him as significantly different to his competitors. He was over the moon and in the process I had pissed off a lot of the established ‘experts’. I quite like doing that. I then went on to establish an advertising studio, sell it, travel a bit more, got married, worked in sales and management, and learned a lot of stuff – some of which I still use today other bits have been discarded. In a nutshell, I learnt what works and what doesn’t. Fast forward to 25 years later: I’ve now consulted and coached more than 400 businesses in 8 countries and the basic philosophy hasn’t changed – there’s no point being better cheaper or faster. Be different. Be unique. There are currently three books with my name on the cover and another in the making. Having a lot of happy and growing clients is satisfying and very rewarding. I have seen countless business owners grow themselves, their teams and their businesses and its amazing to see the transformations but there is something I am even more proud of: For context: I don’t offer my clients contracts, you can quit at any time, for any reason, no problems. There’s no ‘locking you in’ for x months to secure my income, no ‘opt-out’ fees or anything like what other coaches offer. I'm a man of my word, and so are my clients. The so-called ‘industry standard’ for coaches and their clients is 1 year and three months. Most coaches have clients for just over a year and then they hit the road, hence the proliferation of contracts for set durations. My clients don’t seem to want to leave. The average client tenure for my clients is 8 years 11 months, and it's growing. That’s the thing I'm most proud of, my clients – who can leave at any time – see the value in working with me year after year. Along with working with people for very long periods, I have been involved in ‘retiring’ clients – 28 so far. ‘Retiring’ a client is when they sell their business and retire. I lose them as a client but they have a huge win as they typically sell their business for multiples more than what they would have.
